For this assignment, I was inspired by the work of Pipilotti Rist specifically Aujourd'Hui. The video displays how Rist spends part of her day. The video aptly titled Aujord'hui which is french for "On the day of today" the video starts by showing Rist in a grocery. The camera occasionally zooming in on fruits and vegetables, however, the camera main focus is on Rist. It focuses on her face as she stares into the lens of the camera, barely blinking as if she wants the viewer to see what she sees. However it is hard to pinpoint what exactly she wants us to focus on. Seeing as she takes up most of the camera however, there is a floating video image projected usually on her head of what looks like a man and woman in the wild perhaps hunting or gathering their food. She creates an image of two societies. The society of the here and the society of the past. She allows us to question the society of today by turning shooting the video on a side angle however the overlaid video of the society of the past is upright. Although the past society is barely visible or recognizable, it is still prominent due to her focus on it, and the almost ethereal dream like quality of the video. For me this body of work makes me to see the changing of society and the construction that is society. Society is ever changing however it seems the parameters or blue print seem to stay the same. In this body of work the parameters were as people we need to eat however the construction has changed how we provide the food for ourselves.

I wanted to take the idea of construction and society and apply it to what I am interested in: fashion. I did not want to parallel past and present of fashion, however, the idea that society dictates what we think is fashionable. At the same time, I wanted to show clothing itself as a representation of building, and construction.
